Goldencents filly chalks up second stakes win in New York Oaks
July 16, 2024
Caldwell Luvs Gold drew off in the final furlong to win the $75,000 New York Oaks by a widening 3 ¼-lengths Monday at Finger Lakes, earning the 3-year-old Goldencents filly her second career stakes win.
Caldwell Luvs Gold broke well from her outside post in the field of six and settled just behind Sweet Brown Sugar, who led the field for the first five furlongs. Caldwell Luvs Gold got on even terms with the leader midway on the turn. Those two battled side-by-side until midstretch, when Caldwell Luvs Gold pulled away strongly to win convincingly.
The winner is trained by Brad Cox for Dicke Racing, who purchased the filly at the 2022 Fasig-Tipton New York Preferred Yearlings sale. Caldwell Luvs Gold was bred by Jeremiah Desmond and Drumkenny Farm, LLC.
Goldencents, currently fifth on the 2024 General Sire list, has a dozen stakes horses this year, topped by Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Mystik Dan. His progeny have earned just over $9 million to date this season.
