Goldencents colt strolls to 4-length MDSPWT Churchill win
November 17, 2018
Troy Ounce pulled clear from a tangle of horses at the top of the stretch to score emphatically in a seven-furlong maiden special weight race for 2-year-olds Saturday at Churchill Downs [WATCH RACE].
The striking bay colt is the 24th winner to date for Goldencents, which is nine more than any North American First-Crop sire this year. He also ranks second in earnings and stakes horses to fellow Spendthrift stallion Cross Traffic.
After a good break, Troy Ounce was three-wide and less than a length off the lead as the field made its way through a quarter-mile in :22.98. Still three deep on the turn, Troy Ounce asserted himself entering the stretch and was all alone in the final furlong as he wrapped up the distance in 1:24.21.
Owned by L and N Racing and bred by Mulholland and 3480 Equine LLP, Troy Ounce sold for $150,000 at the 2018 OBS Spring 2-year-old Sale. His dam Lazaria Lass is a sister to Peter Pan S. (G3) winner Blended Citizen and Kentucky Derby (G1) runner-up Lookin At Lee.
