Goldencents 2yo takes $200,000 Seeking the Ante S. for first stakes win
August 28, 2023
Caldwell Luvs Gold is now undefeated in two starts after the 2-year-old Goldencents filly prevailed in a thrilling stretch duel in Sunday’s $200,000 Seeking the Ante S. at Saratoga.
The juvenile was making her stakes debut following a sharp first time out maiden special weight victory at this same track one month ago. As she did in that race, Caldwell Luvs Gold came from well off the pace to win Sunday’s six-furlong sprint. She gave the field a six-length head start on the backstretch before commencing her rally on the bend.
The bay filly had a full head of steam while coming four-wide into the stretch. She ran down Stellamaris with a sustained effort, winning by a half-length in 1:11.29 on a fast track.
“I think the longer may be the better,” said winning trainer Brad Cox. “I’m thinking that maybe she’ll put herself in the race a little more going farther, but this has been her. Even in the mornings she breaks fine, they can kind of get away from her a little bit and she comes running. She puts in a long, sustained run and I love what we’ve seen from her in her first two runs.”
Owned by Dicke Racing, Caldwell Luvs Gold has earned $158,400 in her two victories. The bay filly was bred in New York by Jeremiah Desmond and Drumkenny Farm, LLC. The winner’s dam Snow is a half-sister to GISP Quindici Man and has a yearling filly by Vekoma.
Goldencents is a top 25 General Sire in 2023 with $6.25 million in progeny earnings. He is top five nationally with 22 stakes horses and 127 individual winners.
