Golden Candy wins stakes debut in style
September 29, 2019
Leading Second-Crop sire Goldencents got his fifth stakes winner of the year on Saturday when Golden Candy rolled to a four-length victory in the $100,000 First State Dash S. at Delaware Park.
Making his stakes debut after breaking his maiden on Aug. 24, Golden Candy was on the muscle right from the start of Saturday’s 5 ½-furlong contest. He pressed Sight of Heaven through a quarter in a very rapid :21.67, then took over the lead on the turn and drew off impressively to get the distance in 1:04.11 on the fast main track.
With the win, Golden Candy has two wins and a pair of thirds and earned $84,250 for owner/breeder A. Delaperriere Stables LLC. His stakes-placed dam Be My Candy is a full sister to stakes winner Candy Coded Kisses.
Goldencents leads all Second-Crop sires with over $4.4 million in progeny earnings and 72 individual winners to date this year. He is also tied for the top spot by stakes wins, with seven.
