Gerrymander gives Into Mischief his 50th Graded Stakes winner
June 26, 2022
Gerrymander’s commanding three-length tally in the $250,000 Mother Goose S. (G2) at Belmont Park gave champion sire Into Mischief his 50th career graded stakes winner and the 3-year-old filly her second career stakes win.
Gerrymander finished second to champion Echo Zulu in last year’s Frizette S. (G1) before wrapping up her 2-year-old campaign with a win in the Tempted S., also at Belmont Park.
In the 1 1/16-mile Mother Goose, Gerrymander faced just three opponents. She broke very keenly and had the lead in the first furlong. Jockey Joel Rosario held her up, allowing Juju’s Map and Shahama to battle for the front. Gerrymander was content in third until just outside the quarter-pole, when Rosario took the filly three-wide into the stretch. She powered past the top two and drew away from there to stop the timer in 1:43.74 on a fast track.
“She trained brilliantly leading up to the (Mother Goose),” said winning trainer Chad Brown. “We know she loves Belmont and has always trained well here. We were quietly confident that she would show up today.”
The winner has now earned $378,000 in six starts for owner Klaravich Stables, who purchased her for $375,000 out of the 2020 Keeneland September sale.
Gerrymander was bred in Kentucky by Town & Country Horse Farms LLC and Pollock Farms. Out of stakes-placed Ruby Lips, Gerrymander is a half-sister to multiple graded winner Lone Rock.
Into Mischief leads the 2022 General Sire list in several categories, notably by graded stakes winners, with eight, and stakes winners, with 13.
