Fulsome back to winning ways in Smarty Jones S. (G3)
August 25, 2021
Into Mischief’s 3-year-old colt Fulsom got career stakes win number 3 on Aug. 25 with a two-length victory in the $300,000 Smarty Jones S. (G3) at Parx Racing (WATCH RACE).
Fulsome won both the Matt Winn S. (G3) and $300,000 Oaklawn S. this spring before most recently running third in the Indiana Derby (G3). Tuesday’s win upped his record to 5-1-1 in nine starts, with earnings of $582,024.
Fulsome had to come from last in the field of six to win the 1 1/16-mile affair. Unhurried early while The King Cheek led the way through a half-mile in :46.75, jockey Florent Geroux guided Fulsome to the three path as he made up ground quickly on the turn. He was four-wide coming into the stretch as he rolled to the lead. Alonzo tried to keep up, but Fulsome was too much in the final furlong, stopping the timer in 1:45.57 on a fast track.
Fulsome races for his breeder Juddmonte Farms and is trained by Brad Cox.
Pedigree Notes from the TDN: Fulsome’s win comes off another strong weekend for the nation’s leading sire, who was represented by two new ‘TDN Rising Stars’ on Saturday. Dam Flourish was a two-time winner, once on each surface. She is a half-sister to MGISWs Sightseek and Tates Creek (Rahy) and to the dam of European champion juvenile filly Special Duty (GB). This is the female family of Bowman’s Band and Etoile Montante. Flourish was bred back to Into Mischief for 2022.
