Free Drop Billy’s Malibu Billy wins MdSpWt at first asking

Malibu Billy swept to the lead on the final turn and out-fought Island d’Lite to win his career debut on Oct. 6 at Charles Town Races (WATCH RACE).

The 2-year-old is the fifth winner for Free Drop Billy, who also has accounted for stakes winner Free Drop Maddy and two-time winner Shammah among his runners. Free Drop Billy has stakes entries at Keeneland, Aqueduct and Delta Downs over the coming several days.

Malibu Billy patiently stalked a trio of pacesetters for the first half-mile, then made a three-wide bid on the turn to take the lead at the top of the stretch. He dug in gamely to win the 6 ½-furlong contest by three-quarters of a length.

The winner is owned by MCA Racing Stable LLC and Robert Bone and was bred by Maurice Casey III.
