July 7, 2019
The yearling auction season kicks off July 9 with the Fasig-Tipton July Sale in Lexington, KY, with Spendthrift’s trio of Brody’s Cause, Cinco Charlie and Hit It a Bomb all represented by their first crop at the one-day auction that starts at 10 a.m. local time.
Brody’s Cause, winner of the Blue Grass S. (G1) and Breeders’ Futurity (G1), has a total of seven lots in the catalog. A few of his juveniles to note are hip No. 259, a filly out of Grade 1-placed Jamaican Smoke from the same family as Spendthrift’s champion First-Crop sire of 2018 Cross Traffic; hip No. 304, a filly out of the Malibu Moon mare Malibu Cove, who is a full sister to multiple graded winner Prospective; and hip No. 343, a colt out of No Knocks, a sister to champion Pleasant Tap and Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Go For Gin.
Cinco Charlie, a stakes winner across three seasons of racing, with a filly, hip No. 278 out of the Mineshaft mare Latern who has already produced five winners and from the family of Horse of the Year Havre de Grace, and hip No. 289, a colt out of 11-time winner Lookin’ Foxy.
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) winner Hit It a Bomb’s single sale’s entry is hip No. 222, a colt already named City o’ War Bomb. The colt’s pedigree traces directly to the immortal Seattle Slew through his third dam Clandestina, the Hall of Famer’s half-sister.
