First winner for Mitole is a TDN Rising Star
January 1, 1970
Eclipse Champion Mitole was represented by his first North American winner on May 19 when the filly V V’s Dream rolled to a 6 ¼-length maiden special weight win at Churchill Downs.
The eye-catching victory, at five furlongs, earned the gray/roan 2-year-old a TDN ‘Rising Star’ tag.
After breaking somewhat tardily, V V’s Dream found herself some seven lengths from the front after a furlong. She steadily made up ground around the bend, then after straightening for the final quarter-mile, she showed an amazing turn of foot and left the field in her wake, winning with something in reserve in a very solid :57.91 on a fast track.
Mitole’s other starter in the race, Cheetah Miss, set the pace and finished second to the winner.
The debut victory was worth $69,000 to owner MJM Racing and trainer Ken McPeek. Bred by Mark Stansell, V V’s Dream sold for $190,000 at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling sale.
V V’s Dream’s dam Quay is a half-sister to the dam of multiple graded stakes winner Kathleen O., while third dam Pretty ‘n Smart produced a trio of graded winners.
Mitole’s first winner, Mit Myth, came overseas on May 9 in a graded race in Russia. Mitole is currently the only First-Crop sire with more than one winner.
