July 11, 2017
A striking dark bay colt from the first crop of Spendthrift stallion Shakin It Up brought a winning bid of $105,000 at Tuesday’s Fasig-Tipton July sale in central Kentucky.
Jerry Durant was the high bidder for hip No. 79, consigned by Summerfield, agent.
The colt’s dam, Purrfect Song, by Unbridled’s Song has a pair of winners under her and is a half-sister to Santa Catarina, winner of the Hollywood Oaks (G2) and second in the Kentucky Oaks (G1).
Shakin It Up stood for a fee of $5,000 live foal this year at Spendthrift. A very versatile racehorse, Shakin It Up won the Grade 1 Malibu S. at seven furlongs and the Grade 2 Strub S. around two turns. In his first two years at stud, he bred 165 mares.
