First Race Day 2yo at OBS June brings $170,000
June 13, 2019
Race Day’s first juvenile through the auction ring sold for $170,000 to Marc Tacher during Wednesday’s session of the OBS June Sale of 2-year-olds in Training.
The colt’s price equaled the highest price at auction this year for a 2-year-old by the First-Crop sire, whose sales average of $82,750 is nearly 12 times his bred-on stud fee.
Consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, the gray or roan colt, who had breezed an eighth in :10 flat at Wednesday’s Under Tack session, is out of Annabird, by Flower Alley, a half-sister to Grade One stakes-placed stakes winner Achiever’s Legacy.
The colt’s third dam Amelia Bearhart produced Grade 1 winners Explosive Red and Chief Bearhart, the latter a two-time Horse of the Year in Canada and winner of the Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1).
Race Day has six lots remaining in the auction’s final two days, including hip No. 760, a colt who had the fastest quarter-mile breeze of :20 3/5 during last weekend’s Under Tack Show.
Race Day is participating in Spendthrift’s Safe Bet program, which assures breeders that a stallion’s first crop of two-year-olds will have at least one Graded/Group stakes winner in 2019, or the breeder will be completely relieved of the stud fee for his or her impending foal in 2020.
