First Gormley weanlings up to $90,000 at Fasig-Tipton
October 16, 2019
Grade 1 winner Gormley’s first weanlings offered at auction at the Oct. 15 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Fall Sale were topped by a $90,000 filly consigned by Vinery Sales as agent for Saratoga Glen Farm and Stephen Viola Thoroughbreds LLC.
The bay filly, hip No. 170, was purchased by Sheperd Equine Advisers on behalf of Larry Hirsch. She is the second foal out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Light the Causeway, who has a pair of stakes-winning siblings.
Gormley, winner of the FrontRunner S. (G1) in just his second start, went on to take the Santa Anita Derby (G1) and Sham S. (G3) at three. The son of Malibu Moon bred 180 mares in his first season in 2018 and will stand for $7,500 live foal in 2020.
