Everso Mischievous takes $300,000 Harrods Creek for first black type win
September 24, 2023
Into Mischief added Everso Mischievous to his burgeoning list of 2023 stakes winners on Sept. 23 when the 3-year-old colt won the $300,000 Harrods Creek S. at Churchill Downs by a widening 3 ¼-lengths.
The bay sophomore, who was making his stakes debut following a Aug. 5 Saratoga allowance win, is the 21st stakes winner and 136th lifetime for his sire. With nearly $19.9 million in progeny earnings to date, Into Mischief is leading the 2023 General Sire list by more than $6.5 million.
Trained by Brad Cox for Qatar Racing, Everso Mischievous got away cleanly and battled with Bouncer, who had a narrow lead for the first half-mile, down the backstretch and into the turn. Everso Mischievous took command just before entering the homestretch, and drew off willingly to finish the seven furlongs over a fast track in 1:22.15.
“This was the first time I was aboard him but I watched all his races,” winning rider Christian Torres said. “Last time they put blinkers on him and it helped him be more forward. Every time he ran he had a target. I had a lot of horse beneath me down the lane but I had to stay after him. He responded the entire time.”
Everso Mischievous has an excellent record of 3-2-0 in five starts, and has earned $359,640. He was bred in Kentucky by Clearsky Farms and sold for $600,000 at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling sale.
