Engage second stakes winner of weekend for Into Mischief
May 13, 2018
Engage out-dueled Forced in a spirited stretch-long battle to win the $100,000 Gold Fever S. by a nose on Sunday afternoon at Belmont Park.
The 3-year-old Into Mischief colt, winner of last year’s Futurity (G3), is now 3-2-0 and has banked $266,400 for his owner Woodford Racing LLC.
With Sly Beauty winning Woodbine’s Star Shoot S. on Saturday, Engage gave Into Mischief a weekend stakes double and raised his number of stakes winners this year to nine, which tops the General Sire list.
Facing just two foes in the six-furlong Gold Fever, Engage was last early before starting his bid in the middle of the turn. He drew even with pacesetter Forced soon after turning for home, and those two were virtually inseparable to the wire, with Engage getting his nose in front in 1:09.95 on the sloppy racetrack.
Engage was bred in Kentucky by Woods Edge Farm and sold for $550,000 at the 2017 OBS March Sale of 2-year-olds in Training.
