Spendthrift Farm’s Cross Traffic, the exceptional Grade 1-winning son of Unbridled’s Song, sired his first winner on Thursday at Churchill Downs when 2-year-old filly Dreaming Diamonds posted a convincing 3 1/2-length win in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race.
Racing for new owners Rob Auerbach and Marc Winston following a good third in her April 8 debut at Keeneland, Dreaming Diamonds broke very smartly from her inside post and set all the pace, carving out a :22.41 for the first quarter-mile. She put away Luna Nueva in upper stretch to draw off impressively while getting the distance in 52.83 seconds over a fast local main track.
Bred by JRita Young Thoroughbreds in Kentucky, Dreaming Diamonds is out of the stakes-winning D’Wildcat mare Xunlei and hails from the same family as champion filly Too Late Now.
Cross Traffic was at his best capturing the Grade 1 Whitney Invitational H., where he defeated Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winners Mucho Macho Man and Fort Larned. He took up stud duties at Spendthrift in 2015.
Cross Traffic currently stands for a fee of $7,500 live foal.
