Coal Front filly debut with a stylish maiden special weight victory
August 21, 2023
Dewey Doit became the sixth First-Crop winner for Coal Front on Aug. 21 when the 2-year-old filly scored by 2 ¼-lengths in a $60,000 maiden special weight race at Parx.
The bay filly was prominent from the outset of the 5 ½-furlongs, making her way to the lead in the first eighth mile. She was pressured until midway on the turn, when she shook off Gypsy Wanderer and then comfortably held Ringer Card at bay in the stretch to secure the win.
Dewey Doit is owned by the Tilted Shamrock Stable, who purchased her for $85,000 out of the 2023 OBS 2-year-old sale in June. She was bred by Elser Farms Corp. Her dam Aruban Truth is a sister to graded winner Just Howard and stakes winner Monte Crista.
Coal Front is currently sixth on the First-Crop sire list, and remarkably has fellow Spendthrift freshman sires Maximus Mischief, Mitole, Omaha Beach and Vino Rosso ahead of him.
