Citizen Bull kicks off Breeders’ Cup contingent for Into Mischief

Citizen Bull will be the first of four Breeders’ Cup starters for Into Mischief when he goes postward in Friday’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) at Del Mar.

The 2-year-old colt, hailing from the powerful Bob Baffert barn, won the American Pharoah S. (G1) Oct. 5 at Santa Anita Park in his last start. Owned by SF Racing, LLC, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, Stonestreet Stables LLC, D Bashor, Determined Stables, R Masterson, Tom Ryan, Waves Edge Capital LLC & Catherine Donovan. Citizen Bull sold for $675,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling sale and was bred By Robert and Lawana Low.

Citizen Bull drew post 6 in the field of 10. The 1 1/16-mile race is ninth on the card, with a post time of 4:45 pm PT.

In Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup race, Into Mischief has a pair of Classic (G1) runners: Pyrenees and Newgate, as well as Meta Max in the Sprint (G1).

The Classic, race 8 at 2:41 pm PT, drew a field of 14, with Pyrenees in post 8 and Newgate in 13. Pyrenees, bred by his owner Blue Heaven Farm LLC, won the Pimlico Special (G3) and placed in the Stephen Foster S. (G1) and Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1). Newgate, who was barely beaten in last month’s California Crown (G1), races for SF Racing, LLC, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, Robert Masterson, Stonestreet Stables, Jay Schoenfarber, Waves Edge Capital LLC & Catherine Donovan. The bay colt was bred by Town & Country Horse Farm.

The Sprint will be race 10, at 4:05 pm PT, with Meta Max in post 7 in the field of 11. The 4-year-old colt, who was a $1.1 million buy at the 2022 OBS March sale, has campaigned exclusively in Japan, where he has won three stakes. Meta Max is owned by Fujita Susumu and was bred by Brookstone Farm & Lee Mauberret.
