Chanel’s Legacy takes Dixie Belle for second stakes victory
January 21, 2017
Dominus’ exciting 3-year-old filly Chanel’s Legacy took Saturday’s $125,000 Dixie Belle S. at Oaklawn Park by 2 1/2-lengths, the second stakes victory for the Allen Poindexter homebred.
Chanel’s Legacy got an excellent ride from Alex Birzer. Sitting about a length from the front until the top of the stretch, when she forged to the lead and comfortably held off a late run from My Sweet Stella to stop the timer in 1:11.85 for the six furlongs on the fast main track.
“We thought there would be some speed,” trainer Lynn Chleborad said. “We wanted to save her kick for the end. It makes her a better horse when she can come off the pace and kick it down the lane.”
Chanel’s Legacy, winner of the Gaylord Memorial S. last October, has won three of her six starts and earned $159,394. She is one of Dominus’ four stakes horses from his first crop, which were 2-year-olds of 2016.
Poindexter and Chleborad said Chanel’s Legacy could move back to two turns next for the $125,000 Martha Washington at a mile Feb. 11 at Oaklawn. The race is a steppingstone to the Grade 3, $400,000 Fantasy.
