Carmelina held off Cap Classique to win the $100,000 Penny Chenery S. by a neck on Sunday at Colonial Downs.

The 3-year-old filly’s victory came about 30 minutes after Regalo won the $100,000 Petramalo Mile S., giving Maximus Mischief back-to-back stakes winners on the track’s Arlington Million (G1) day card.

Maximus Mischief leads all Second-Crop sires with six stakes winners and 12 stakes horses this year.

Carmelina, a three-time stakes winner prior to Sunday, led all the way in the seven-furlong contest. She sped through a half-mile in :44.44 and six furlongs in blistering 1:08.14, then dug in gamely in the final furlong to secure the win in 1:21.09, just one-fifth of a second off the track record.

The Cash is King LLC and LC Racing LLC colorbearer is now 5-2-0 in 12 starts and has earned $343,100. The bay filly was bred by Lillith Boucher and is out of two-time stakes winner Complete St.
