Carina Mia, Gormley Malibu Moon’s Breeders’ Cup hopefuls

Carina Mia and Gormley, Malibu Moon’s two Grade 1 winners of 2016, were pre-entered in this year’s Breeders’ Cup Nov. 4-5 at Santa Anita Park.

Carina Mia, winner of the Acorn S. (G1) and Eight Belles S. (G2), was cross-entered in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) and Filly and Mare Sprint (G1), with preference for the Sprint, race 10 on Nov. 5. Carina Mia, who was bred by Spendthrift Farm, has earned just over $1 million for her owner Three Chimneys Farm.

Gormley figures to be one of the top choices in the $2 million Juvenile, race 8 on Nov. 5, following his sparkling three-length win in the FrontRunner S. (G1) a month ago at Santa Anita. Owned Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Moss, Gormley broke his maiden in his Del Mar debut and has earned $216,000.

Official post positions for the Breeders’ Cup will be drawn on Oct. 31.
