Hip 436, a weanling filly from the first crop of Can the Man, commanded $155,000 on Day 2 Wednesday at the annual Keeneland November sale in Lexington, KY.
A half-sister to Grade 1 winner Catch a Glimpse, the attractive weanling proved popular among the buyers, with Canaan Creek Stables signing the ticket. The bay filly was bred in Kentucky by Branch Equine, LLC & WDS Bloodstock, and she hails from the Irish River (Fr) mare Halo River.
Can the Man, who topped the Barretts May Sale as a 2-year-old, impressively won his debut at Del Mar for trainer Bob Baffert. In just his second start, he placed in the Del Mar Futurity (G1) after encountering a troubled trip. The precocious 2-year-old colt went on to capture the Speakeasy S. at Santa Anita in 1:09 2/5 to close out his juvenile campaign.
In his first start as a 3-year-old, Can the Man stretched out his speed to win the Affirmed S. (G3) wire to wire around two turns at Santa Anita. By leading sire Into Mischief, Can the Man hails from the Grade 2-winning Danzig mare Smolensk, a half-sister to Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour.
