Brody’s Cause colt prevails in Del Mar MdSpWt

First-Crop sire Brody’s Cause got his second winner on July 11 at Del Mar when the chestnut colt Girther went gate-to-wire in a five-furlong maiden special weight for 2-year-olds.

Girther made the lead at the start, but was hounded the entire trip by Cross Indian to his inside. The two were never more than a half-length apart, with Girther winning by a nose in a valiant effort.

Girther is owned by Altamira Racing Stable and was purchased on their behalf by trainer Peter Miller at the OBS March 2-year-old sale. He was bred in Florida by Farm III Enterprises and is out of Tea Dancer, who is a half-sister to a Group 2 winner in Brazil.

With his two winners, Brody’s Cause is a top-five First-Crop sire. His next starter, Wicked Brody, comes Sunday in a Gulfstream Park maiden special weight race.

Brody’s Cause, who stands for a fee of $7,500 S&N, is participating in Spendthrift’s renowned breeding program for freshman sires – the Safe Bet program – in 2020, which guarantees breeders a graded stakes-winning 2-year-old from his first crop this year or no stud fee will be owed in 2021 when the resulting foal is born.
