Bolt d’Oro’s Fulmineo rallies late for second straight stakes win

July 14, 2024

Fulmineo surged to the lead in the final furlong of Saturday’s $125,000 Boston S. at Colonial Downs to win the one-mile turf race by a half-length over Crystal Quest.

A 3-year-old son of Bolt d’Oro, Fulmineo had defeated Crystal Quest in Pimlico’s James Murphy S. on Preakness Day, and the Boston came down to those two as well. Fulmineo was between and behind horses for the first six furlongs, with Crystal Quest just ahead of him. Fulmineo was forced to go five-wide into the stretch, going around and past Crystal Quest in deep stretch to get the win.

The final time was 1:37.10 on the firm turf.

Trained by Arnaud Delacour for Starlight Racing and Mark Grier, Fulmineo is 3-4-1 in 10 starts and has earned $254,275. He was purchased by Starlight for $90,000 at the 2022 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearlings sale.

Bred by Country Life Farm and Starr of Quality LLC, Fulmineo is the first foal out of Starr of Quality, who has a 2024 colt by Spendthrift stallion Cyberknife.

Bolt d’Oro was the champion Freshman Sire of 2022 and was the third-leading sire on last year’s Second-Crop list. He is in the top 10 on the 2024 Third-Crop list with $3.6 million in progeny earnings to date.
