April 26, 2023
The 2022 champion First-Crop sire Bolt d’Oro began the OBS Spring 2-year-old Sale with some resounding results Tuesday, topped by an $850,000 filly that sold to Roy and Gretchen Jackson’s Lael Stable, with Doug Cauthen signing the ticket.
Consigned by de Meric Sales, agent, hip No. 215 was the highest-priced filly of the session and the second-highest overall. The filly was bred by Ruis Racing.
“There were a lot of nice Bolts here and when you just keep seeing a lot of good ones, it gives you encouragement,” said Cauthen. “Hopefully, she can be that big filly on his resume.”
“The Jacksons saw her on the farm. She is a filly that always caught everybody’s eye,” added Tristan de Meric. “From Day 1, we have loved her and were just happy to have her.”
The dark bay filly is the second foal out of Creative Contessa, who is a half-sister to stakes winners Amiable Grace and Miss Tizzy.
Bolt d’Oro is currently leading the 2023 Second-Crop sire list with over $2 million in progeny earnings and a trio of stakes winners topped by graded winners Major Dude and Instant Coffee.
