Bolt d’Oro has top filly Thursday at OBS Spring sale
April 19, 2024
Bolt d’Oro post more big numbers at Thursday session of the OBS Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in Training with hip No. 643 hammering for $450,000, the top filly and the second-highest overall price of the day.
Consigned by de Meric Sales, agent, the gray/roan filly went to Woodford Thoroughbreds. She was bred in Kentucky by H. Allen Poindexter.
“I liked the stallion and I think he’s held his own in a very competitive Kentucky stallion market,” said Will Walden. “And I’d say his fillies probably more than his colts have turned out to have been his more predominant runners. Physically, she’s a long, scopey, racy-type filly that I think will stretch out and get two turns. She had a lot of quality. Every time I went back to the barn, she was the ultimate professional and I just fell in love with her.”
The filly’s dam, Sky O’Blue, has produced three runners, all winners. The family traces back to two-time champion Kalithea and the graded stakes-winning 2-year-old Night in Reno.
Bolt d’Oro also had one of the top five colts Thursday with hip No. 787 bringing $330,000 from Reeves Thoroughbred Racing. The colt was consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, agent and bred by James Matheney, Jr. in Kentucky.
The OBS sale concludes tomorrow, with Bolt d’Oro having seven individuals scheduled to go through the ring.
