Bolt d’Oro filly has fastest-ever work at Gulfstream Under Tack show
March 29, 2022
A filly from the first crop of Bolt d’Oro posted the fastest quarter-mile Under Tack show breeze time Monday in advance of the Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream sale, which will be held for the seventh time on March 30.
The filly, hip No. 48 consigned by Tom McCrocklin on behalf of Solana Beach Sales, was the second to work a quarter, covering the distance in a sizzling :20 2/5.
McCrocklin purchased the filly for Solana Beach for $85,000 at last year’s Keeneland September sale.
“We did a broodmare pinhooking partnership,” explained Solana Beach’s Billy Koch to the TDN. “And [pinhooker Rich Love] was part of that group. It was funny because I remember being at the yearling sale and Tom said, ‘I really like this filly.’ I said, ‘I think that’s the filly we sold [as a weanling at the 2020 Keeneland November sale].’ And he said, ‘Yeah. And we’re going to buy her back.’”
“Truthfully, Tom has been so high on her that we had such high expectations and she even exceeded those,” Koch continued after the record-setting breeze. “He has been saying that she is a very special filly. Every time she breezes, we get a text, ‘This is real serious.’ So expectations were high, so it was not a surprise, but it was a surprise just how awesome it was.”
Of the filly’s sire, Koch said, “Bolt d’Oro was really popular and sold well. “His horses are good–he’s stamping them and they are fast and athletic and strong. They have all the attributes you want in a good racehorse. “
Bolt d’Oro has three lots total in Wednesday’s sale, which begins at 2 p.m. ET.
