September 3, 2022
Leading First-Crop sire Bolt d’Oro got his 13th winner Saturday at Saratoga when Instant Coffee was a three-quarter length winner in a $105,000 maiden special weight contest for 2-year-olds.
Breaking from the tricky inside post, Instant Coffee was sixth, about four lengths off the lead, after a quarter-mile in :22.73. He was in the clear on the inside around the turn, and had about three lengths to make up at the top of the stretch.
Arthur’s Ride, in the center of the track, challenged gamely for the lead, veering inward to come along side Instant Coffee with less than a furlong to go. Instant Coffee responded with one final burst to get to the wire first in 1:22.77 for the seven furlongs on a fast track.
Instant Coffee, owned by Gold Square, earned $57,750 in victory. He sold for $200,000 at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling sale. Bred by Sagamore Farm, Instant Coffee is the first foal out stakes-placed Uncle Mo mare Follow No One.
Bolt d’Oro, who leads the First-Crop sire list with seven stakes horses, has had a terrific past seven days, getting his both his first graded stakes winner, Boppy O in the With Anticipation S. (G3), and three days prior to that, his first stakes winner with Mounsieur Coco, and also two new stakes performers.
