Bolt d’Oro back atop First-Crop list after Anywho’s debut victory
January 1, 1970
Anywho surged to the lead in the final sixteenth of a seven-furlong maiden special weight race at Belmont at the Big A on Sunday to give Bolt d’Oro his 19th winner and secure his spot atop the 2022 First-Crop sire list.
With four stakes winners and 11 stakes horses, five of them in graded company, Bolt d’Oro is poised to have a very strong showing at this year’s Breeders’ Cup, upcoming in two weeks at Keeneland.
Anywho, who was making her first start, looked very professional in victory. She was tucked behind horses along the inside during the early stages before moving to the two path and going around a tiring foe in the middle of the turn. She moved back down inside for the stretch run and surged past the leaders to win by nearly a length in 1:27.75 on a fast track.
The winner races for Robert Masiello and picked up $52,250 in victory. She was bred in Kentucky by Brookfield Stud and sold for $300,000 at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling sale. Anywho is out of Fancy and Flashy and is a half-sister to graded stakes-placed Wipe the Slate.
