Blu Moon Ace shows class in Maryland Million Sprint
October 21, 2017
Blu Moon Ace rolled to a comfortable three-length win in Saturday’s $100,000 Maryland Million Sprint at Laurel Park, the second stakes win in three starts for the 4-year-old son of Malibu Moon.
Blu Moon Ace left little doubt as who was the best horse in Saturday’s six-furlong contest, powering to the lead with three furlongs to run and never getting threatened in the stretch. The final time was an excellent 1:09.06 on a fast main track.
The winner, who was second by just a neck in last month’s De Francis Dash (G3), is now 7-3-3 in 21 starts and has earned $374,064 for Robert Cole, Jr.
Bred by Howard Bender, Blu Moon Ace is out of three-time stakes winner Access Fee.
Malibu Moon is the sire of 12 stakes winners this year, including the Grade 1-winning fillies Heavenly Love and Moonshine Memories, both leading contenders for the upcoming Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1).
