Bad Beat draws off to break maiden at Del Mar
July 27, 2019
First-Crop sire Danza chalked up his third winner on Friday in the opener at Del Mar when Bad Beat drew off in the stretch to register a 3 ¼-length win in the 5 ½-furlong contest (VIDEO).
Owned by a partnership led by Corrina Corser, the gray/roan juvenile was bred by Scott Pierce. Bad Beat is out of the Holy Bull mare Naturally Naughty, whose siblings include stakes winner Bam Bam Bull and stakes -place Bullcat.
Danza, winner of the Arkansas Derby (G1) and third in the Kentucky Derby (G1), is one of six Spendthrift Farm’s First-Crop stallion participating in the Safe Bet Program, which assures breeders that a stallion’s first crop of two-year-olds will have at least one Graded/Group stakes winner in 2019, or the breeder will be completely relieved of the stud fee for his or her impending foal in 2020.
