B. B. Dude first stakes winner for Shakin It Up
August 12, 2018
B. B. Dude, who was freshman sire Shakin It Up’s first winner on June 1, became his first stakes winner with a sharp, front-running score in the $50,000 Manzano S. Saturday evening at Albuquerque Downs.
The Steve Asmussen-trainee was never headed after bouncing out of the gate on top in the six-furlong contest. He got an early challenge from Mc Awesome in the first quarter-mile, but easily shook him off entering the turn and rolled home to win by nearly three lengths in 1:11.60 on a “good” main track [WATCH RACE].
The winner is owned by Jerry Durant and was bred by Sally Thomas and New Dawn Stable. B. B. Dude’s dam Purrfect Song is a half-sister to Hollywood Oaks (G2) winner and Kentucky Oaks (G1) runner-up Santa Catarina. Durant purchased the colt for $105,000 out of the 2017 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Summer Yearlings sale.
Shakin It Up has four winners from just eight starters to date, including maiden special weight winners at Churchill Downs and Santa Anita, giving him one of the top winning percentages from starters of any top-20 First-Crop Sire.
