October 14, 2024
Authentic, the 2020 Horse Of The Year by Into Mischief, sired his first black type winner when his 2-year-old filly Power Connection won the $60,000 Manzano Stakes while defeating the boys on October 12.
Trained by Todd Fincher, Power Connection finished second on debut at Los Alamitos in June, then placed in two more maidens before winning the Manzano S. at Albuquerque. Ridden by jockey Irwin Rosendo, she stalked two wide around the track behind the pace setter, then took over the lead coming into the stretch to win by a decisive two lengths. The six-furlong stakes on the dirt was run in a time of 1:10.31.
Power Connection is out of the Officer mare Lady Leftennant which makes her a half sister to the Grade 1 winner, Lady Ivanka. Bred in Kentucky by Scott Pierce, the bay filly was bought by current owners Brad King, Jim Cone, Robert Lewis, and Randy Andrews as a yearling for $150,000 at the Keeneland September Sale.
Authentic is now nearing $1,000,000 in progeny earnings from his debut crop which includes 14 winners. Power Connection was part of Spendthrift’s & MyRacehorse’s popular ‘Foal Derby’ social media contest in 2020, highlighting foals from Authentic’s first crop.
