Authentic filly proves best Aqueduct turf contest

October 25, 2024

Competitive Market jumped on top early and never relinquished her lead in a gritty maiden special weight win Oct. 25 at Aqueduct.

The 2-year-old daughter of Authentic is her sire’s 16th winner and part of an outstanding October for the top-five First-Crop sire. Authentic has had a half-dozen new winners over the past month, as well as his first stakes winner and third stakes performer.

Competitive Market, in post one, broke well in the “about” 1 1/16-mile turf race and was pressed for six furlongs by Complex Gal, who began to fade with a quarter-mile to run. Divine Rose took up the chase in the stretch, but could get no closer than a half-length as Competitive Market held sway to the wire.

The winner is owned by Klaravich Stables, Inc., who purchased her for $410,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling sale. Bred in Kentucky by Curtis Mikkelsen and Patricia Horth, Competitive Market is out of three-time stakes winner Cajun Delta Dawn.
