Horse of the Year Authentic tallied his second winner of his young stallion career on July 2 when Truly Legit powered to a two-length maiden special weight win at Horseshoe Indianapolis.

The gray colt, who was making his career debut, showed his sire’s speed and stamina to win the first two-turn race on dirt for juveniles this year in North America. After tracking closely in second for the first five furlongs, Truly Legit asserted his authority midway on the final bend. He turned for home with a one-length lead and doubled that margin as he crossed the finish line.

Truly Legit is owned by Michael Faber’s Dare To Dream Stable LLC, who purchased the colt for $120,000 at the 2024 OBS Spring 2-year-old sale in April. Bred in Kentucky by Erv Woolsey and Ralph Kinder, Truly Legit is the second foal out of Graded Stakes winner Jordan’s Henry.

Following his 2020 Horse of the Year campaign that included wins in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) and Kentucky Derby (G1), Authentic has been among the most popular stallions of his generation. His 2023 First-Crop yearlings averaged $238,928, tops among freshman sires. This year his 2-year-olds have averaged $152,009, including a $1 million colt. Authentic’s 2024 fee is $50,000 live foal.
