Amazonian comes flying to win $100,000 BC Oaks
September 8, 2019
Amazonian made a huge rally in the final three furlongs of the $100,000 British Columbia Oaks to win the 1 1/8-mile contest for 3-year-old fillies by a widening 2 ¼-lengths (VIDEO).
The victory was the first stakes win for the daughter of Malibu Moon, who now has nine stakes winners this year, including his newest two Grade 1 winners: Come Dancing and Emilia’s Moon.
Amazonian entered Saturday’s race off a good second in the Jockey Club at Hastings Park, her first stakes outing. Allowed to drop well off the pace out of the gate, the chestnut filly was still at least a dozen lengths back with three furlongs to go.
She kicked into gear entering the last of three turns, came rolling wide into the stretch, with her momentum propelling her to roll by the pacesetters and draw off for the win.
Amazonian is owned by the North American Thoroughbred Horse Company and is now 3-2-2 in seven starts with earnings of $73,310. Bred by Three Chimneys Farm and Besilu Stables, she is out of Fly the Flag, a daughter of My Flag and a half-sister to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) champ Storm Flag Flying. My Flag is out of the undefeated Hall of Famer Personal Ensign.
