Jimmy Creed represented in both Friday & Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup races
November 2, 2023
Perennial value sire Jimmy Creed will have runners on both days of the Breeders’ Cup races over the Nov. 3-4 championship series at Santa Anita Park.
His Friday entry is the stakes winner Slider in the $1 million Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1). Slider earned his way into the Breeders’ Cup with a win in the Speakeasy S. Oct. 7 at Santa Anita, his first start on the turf after two main track starts.
Slider, a $240,000 purchase at this year’s OBS Spring Sale of 2-year-olds by his owners West Point Thoroughbreds, Hall Racing LLC and Pearl Racing, drew post 11 in the 12-horse field. Slider was bred by Jason Hall, Stephen Backer, Herschel Martindale and Mike Riordan.
On Saturday multiple Grade 1 winner Casa Creed drew post 3 for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1). This will be Casa Creed’s third straight year to contest a Breeders’ Cup race. In 2021, he was a very troubled eighth, beaten less than four lengths, in the Mile. In last year’s Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) he encountered another troubled trip to be beaten 4 ¼ lengths.
Since that race a year ago, Casa Creed is undefeated in three starts in North America, including wins in the Jaipur S. (G1) and Fourstardave S. (G1), the latter at the mile distance.
Casa Creed’s $2.4 million in career earnings is second-most in the field, behind the Japanese-based mare Songline (JPN). Owned by LRE Racing LLC and JEH Racing Stable, Casa Creed has certainly out-earned his auction sale price of $105,000 at the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling sale. He was bred in Kentucky by Silver Springs Stud LLC.
The Mile is race six on Saturday’s card, with a post time of 4:30 pm ET.
