$1.25 million Bolt d’Oro filly tops Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale

Bolt d’Oro had the sales-topper during the May 20-21 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds in Training sale during Tuesday’s session when hip No. 401 brought a winning bid of $1.25 million.
Trainer Steve Asmussen made the winning bid on behalf of Ron Winchell. The filly was consigned by Ciaran Dunne’s Wavertree Stables, Inc. The bay filly was bred in Kentucky by Springhouse Farm.
“She is going to a great home,” said Dunne, who purchased the filly for $335,000 at last year’s Keeneland September sale. “For as great a day today is, you really hope she goes and is everything that we all think she is. That’s the ultimate goal.”
The filly is out of the Arch mare Werewolf, who already has produced the stakes winners Howling Time and Air Recruit from just three foals to race. The filly’s second dame is a half-sister to multiple graded winner Desert Party.
Bolt d’Oro, who is a top-five Third-Crop sire this year, has a half-dozen stakes horses in 2014, the most recent winner coming on May 18 when Fulmineo won the $100,000 James W. Murphy S. at Pimlico.
Bolt d’Oro’s average price over the two-day sale was $226,500. The champion freshman sire of 2022, Bolt d’Oro stands this year for $60,000 live foal.
