Alan Porter’s 2024 Breeding Analysis for Jackie’s Warrior

A Champion Sprinter, Jackie’s Warrior has captured 11 graded stakes, five grade ones, scoring at that level at two, three and four years old. He is a son of classic sire, Maclean’s Music, himself the leading stallion son of Distorted Humor.

Jackie’s Warrior is an example of the extremely successful cross of Maclean’s Music with A.P. Indy line mares, which has also produced classic winner Cloud Computing (out of a mare by A.P. Indy himself). The A.P. Indy strain will be back in the fourth generation of Jackie’s Warrior foals, which makes him free to cross back over mares from that line. We can note that Maclean’s Music has a stakes winner out of a mare by A.P. Indy grandson, Sky Mesa, a son of Pulpit, and stakes winners out of mares by Flatter (a brother to Congrats) and Girolamo. These horses are all by A.P. Indy out mares by Mr. Prospector, as are Malibu Moon and Mineshaft (sire of Dialed In and Discreetly Mine). Pulpit is the sire of Tapit (sire of Frosted, Trappe Shot, Tapizar, Tapiture and Constitution) and Stroll, and other sources of A.P. Indy would include Bernardini, broodmare sire of a Distorted Humor line stakes winner, and sire of Stay Thirsty and To Honor and Serve; as well as Majestic Warrior and Jump Start.

Intriguingly, Maclean’s Music has already also sired three stakes winners, including Complexity, successful in the Champagne Stakes (G1), out of mares by Yes It’s True, whose grandsire, Raja Baba, is from the same sire line and family as A.P. Indy.

Maclean’s Music is sire grade one winner Drain the Clock out of a mare by Arch (sire of Blame) from the Kris S. branch of the Roberto line. From other branches of that line there are also Distorted Humor line stakes winners out of mares by Dynaformer (broodmare sire of a Maclean’s Music stakes winner, and sire of Temple City, Point of Entry, Brilliant Speed and Purim) and Red Ransom and his son, Comic Strip.

Maclean’s Music is also sire of graded-winning sprinter, Classic Rock, out of a mare by High Yield, a Storm Cat son who gives inbreeding to Maclean’s Music’s grandsire, Forty Niner. From other branches of the Storm Cat line, Maclean’s Music also has a stakes winner out of mare by Storm Cat himself; stakes winner Tamborera out of a mare by Harlan’s Holiday, who is by Harlan, and who is sire of Into Mischief (sire of Goldencents), Majesticperfection and Shanghai Bobby; and stakes winner Musical Heart out of a mare by Lion Heart (sire of Kantharos and Uncaptured, and a son of Tale of the Cat, himself broodmare sire of a Maclean’s Music stakes winner). Other versions of the cross of Distorted Humor line stallions with Storm Cat line mares has produced grade one winners out of mares by Giant’s Causeway and his son, Shamardal; two grade one winners out of mares by  Bernstein; a grade one winner out of a mare by D’wildcat (by Forest Wildcat, sire of Wildcat Heir); a grade one winner out of a mare by Tiger Ridge; and graded stakes winners out of mares by Storm Boot; Pure Prize; Henny Hughes (by Hennessy, whose son, Johannesburg is broodmare sire of a Distorted Humor line stakes winner, and is also sire of Scat Daddy); and Stormy Atlantic. Maclean’s Music also has a stakes winner out of a mare by Royal Academy, a close relative to Storm Cat.

Storm Cat is a Northern Dancer line horse, and from the Deputy Minister branch of that family Maclean’s Music has stakes winner Share The Upside out of a mare by Silver Deputy (sire of Posse, Badge of Silver and Spring at Last) and stakes winner Lead Guitar out of a mare by Finality, a son of Dehere (also sire of Graeme Hall), both by Deputy Minister. This strain can also be brought in through Awesome Again (sire of Ghostzapper, Oxbow, Paynter, Daaher, Awesome of Course and Toccet), Touch Gold and French Deputy.

Maclean’s Music has graded winner Mommasgottarun and two-year-old stakes winner Made Me Shiver out of mares by Tiznow, and stakes winner Angle of Attack out of a mare by that horse’s son, Colonel John. Other sons of Tiznow include Gemologist, Morning Line, Tiz Wonderful and Tizway. It would also be possible to bring in Relaunch – grandsire of Tiznow – through Honour and Glory and his son, Put It Back – both broodmare sire of Distorted Humor line stakes winners – and Bertrando (sire of Officer).

Maclean’s Music is out of a mare by Unbridled’s Song but has sired multiple stakes winner Spring Steen out of a mare by that horse, and stakes winner Honolulu out of a mare by Malabar Gold, a close relative to Unbridled’s Song. Distorted Humor and his sons have also enjoyed success with mares by Unbridled (by Fappiano), and other sons Grindstone (sire of Birdstone) and Saarland. The Unbridled’s Song branch could be brought in through Liam’s Map, Cross Traffic, Dunkirk, Eurosilver, Even the Score, First Defence, Half Ours, Midshipman, Old Fashioned, Rockport Harbor, Songandaprayer, Noonmark (broodmare sire of a Distorted Humor line graded stakes winner) and Zensational. This also suggests daughters of Empire Maker (sire of Pioneerof the Nile and Bodemeister, and grandsire of Cairo Prince and Classic Empire) and Broken Vow.

It would also be possible to introduce Fappiano through Cryptoclearance, who is sire of Victory Gallop, and grandsire of Candy Ride, and Quiet American (grandsire of Midnight Lute). Fappiano is a grandson of Mr. Prospector, and Maclean’s Music has stakes winners out of mares by Mr. Prospector line horses Afleet Alex (by Northern Afleet, who is bred on a similar cross to Kingmambo, sire of Lemon Drop Kid), Two Punch (sire of Smoke Glacken) and Mutakddim (by Seeking the Gold, sire of Petionville and Cape Town). Other Mr. Prospector line horses to appear as broodmares sires of Distorted Humor line stakes winners include Street Cry (sire of Street Sense and Street Boss – the broodmare sire of a Maclean’s Music stakes winner), Mining and Thunder Gulch and his son, Point Given.

Distorted Humor has also done extremely well when crossed over mares descending from Damascus through Personal Flag and his sire, Private Account who is the sire of Private Terms (whose son, Afternoon Deelites is broodmare sire of Maclean’s Music stakes winner Whiskey and Rye) and Unaccounted For, the broodmare sire of Distorted Humor line grade one winner Hoppertunity). There is also a stakes winner by Maclean’s Music out of a mare by Damascus line stallion Gilded Time.

Maclean’s Music also has stakes winner Firecrow out of a mare by Indian Charlie sire of Uncle Mo, Adios Charlie,Bwana Charlie, Liaison and Cinco Charlie.
