Coppola tallied his second stakes win in just over a month on Saturday when the 6-year-old son of Into Mischief went gate-to-wire in the $165,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint S.
The bay speedster, who led all the way in the Dec. 21 Janus S. over the same five-furlong distance, was full of run from the outset again on Saturday. He cleared the field from post 11, rolling through fractions of :20.82 and :42.67 before finishing up three-quarters of a length in front of Capture the Lion on the wire.
The final time was :54.43 on the firm turf.
“He’s a fast son of a gun,” said trainer Dale Romans. “They go :42 [for the half-mile]. I think that’s the fastest any horse of mine has ever gone in my life and I’ve run a lot of horses.”
Coppola has five stakes wins among his 10 career victories and has earned $845,536 for owners Hammer Time Stable LLC and Sport of Kings Racing Partners, LLC. He was bred in Kentucky by Fifth Avenue Bloodstock.
