‘Stars’ shine for Into Mischief Saturday at Churchill Downs

Into Mischief accounted for not one, but two ‘TDN Rising Stars’ on a single card when both Chasten and Patch Adams earned the honor Saturday at Churchill Downs.

Into Mischief now has a total of 47 Rising Stars, including five new ones in 2024. Giant Mischief, who earned the nod some two years ago, earned a stakes win on Friday with a victory in the Fall Highweight S. at Aqueduct, one of two stakes winners over the holiday weekend for Into Mischief.

Chasten, who was making her debut in Saturday’s first race at seven furlongs, was off the pace early, and despite a very wide trip around the turn, finished full of run to win going away by 1 ½-lengths. A Juddmonte Farm homebred, Chasten is a half-sister to champion Idiomatic.

“She’s as tall as her sister and to the races much earlier, even though we didn’t start on her until late spring,” said Juddmonte USA General Manager Garrett O’Rourke. “She’s got a long ways to go to be Idiomatic, but that’s a pleasant start.”

In the fifth race Patch Adams turned in arguably the best race of the day with his 10 ½-length victory at the same seven furlongs. The bay colt dueled early, then put away Zat’s the One at the top of the stretch and left the field behind. He finished in an excellent 1:20.77 to earn a gaudy Beyer Speed Figure of 98.

Patch Adams was bred by WinStar Farm, who owns the colt along with CHC INC., and Siena Farm LLC. Patch Adams is out of the stakes winner Well Humored and is closely related to Grade 1 winners American Patriot and Well Armed.
