Vekoma filly brilliant in career bow at Colonial Downs
July 14, 2024
Vekoma chalked up his 11th First-Crop winner in very impressive fashion Saturday at Colonial Downs when Bella Cleopatra rolled to a 6 ½-length maiden special weight win at 5 ½-furlongs [WATCH RACE].
Bella Cleopatra broke well and was second to Slanderous in the early going. She was keen to take the lead, doing that midway on the turn. She sprinted away from the field at the top of the stretch, and with the race well in hand, was geared down substantially in the final furlong to win as much the best.
The winner is owned by Madel Gonzalez and was bred by Loren Nichols. Bella Cleopatra is the first foal out of her dam Bella Alicita, who has a yearling by Spendthrift stallion Rock Your World.
With his 11 winners to date, Vekoma is second on the First-Crop list by both winners and progeny earnings.
