Coppola dominates the competition in the $100,000 William Garrett H.

July 6, 2024

Into Mischief’s Coppola earned his third career stakes win in the $100,000 William Garrett H. July 5 at Horseshoe Indianapolis, rolling to a six-length victory in the five-furlong dash.

The Garrett was moved to the main track after rains necessitated the switch from the turf. Coppola’s last main track start was last November at Churchill Downs, a race he won as well.

Sent away as the heavy favorite on Friday, Coppola coasted along in second until midway on the turn, when he effortlessly took the lead. Under a hand ride the rest of the way, he widened in the stretch to finish in :56.46 over the sloppy going.

The winner is owned by Hammer Time Stable and S.O.K. Racing. His lifetime record stands at 8-1-1 from 22 starts, with earnings of $620,058. Coppola’s prior stakes wins came on the turf earlier this year at Gulfstream Park in the Silks Run S. and the Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint S.

Bred by Fifth Avenue Bloodstock in Kentucky, Coppola originally sold for $800,000 the 2020 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Select Yearlings sale. He is one of 17 stakes winners this year for Into Mischief, who once again leads the General Sire list with just over $20 million in progeny earnings to date. He is well ahead of his 2023 total of $25,658,712 as Champion Sire.
