Full Circle Moment
Dear Fans,
Wow, what a year 2017 was for Beholder and our incredible team around her! From the joy of announcing her in foal to Uncle Mo to hosting Friday morning Beholder tours, we’ve been very busy. As we kick off 2018, we are reminiscing on this full-circle moment.
Beholder became an integral part of the Spendthrift team in 2011 after we purchased her from the Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $180,000 from her breeder Fred Mitchell’s Clarkland Farm. Soon after she was sent to Raul Reyes’ Kings Equine for her early breaking and training.
Then the legacy began. Her extraordinary career as a race horse not only included 18 first place finishes but earned her titles including Champion Two-Year-Old Filly, Champion Three-Year-Old Filly, Champion Older Dirt Female Horse at both 5 and 6. Her fiery personality and determination to win inspired people all over the world.
After a nail-biting, photo-finish win over champion mare and then-undefeated Songbird in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff, Beholder retired here to Spendthrift on November 21st, 2016 (her trainer, Richard Mandella, wasn’t quite ready to let her go!) to begin her career as a broodmare. She adjusted very quickly to her new lifestyle under the watchful eye of broodmare manager Aimee Compton.
In February of 2017 Beholder was bred to Uncle Mo (Indian Charlie – Playa Maya) – she is believed to be carrying a colt! We are now eagerly awaiting this foal and relishing what a full-circle moment this is.
As 2018 begins, we are excited for all the possibilities and opportunities ahead. Thank you for believing in and supporting Queen B, we look forward to this year with you! Stay tuned for more updates as we continue this journey!

Thanks for starting Friday am tours , hope to see her when we arrive in ky, she was ours in calif for a while , we got to see her regularly and take her in , we so miss her, her son knows he is hers . Thanks for the previous video shortly after his birth, to see and her him vocalize , melted our heart , please kiss her for us
