Thousand Words filly splashes to victory at Churchill Downs
May 17, 2024
First-Crop sire Thousand Words tallied his third winner Friday at Churchill Downs when Vodka With a Twist scored a front-running victory in a $120,000 maiden special weight affair for 2-yar-old fillies.
With one start last month at Keeneland under her belt, Vodka With a Twist shot right to the front out of the gate and never was headed. Murphy Girl made a couple of runs at the lead in the stretch, but Vodka With a Twist repelled her each time, winning by a length in :58.65 for the five furlongs over the sloppy going.
The winner is owned by Deborah McCutchen and was bred in Kentucky by Pillar Property Services Inc. The filly’s dam Bourbon and a Kiss has produce four winners from five starts. Vodka With a Twist’s third dam is Grade 1 winner Mayo on the Side.
Thousand Words is the only First-Crop sire to have three winners, which have come from five total starts. A son of the late Pioneerof the Nile, Thousand Words has 72 named 2-year-olds. The multiple graded stakes winner stands this year for $5,000 live foal.
