Thousand Words starts off strong Thursday at OBS 2yo sale

Thousand Words, whose first crop are 2-year-olds of 2024, had a personal high-water mark at the OBS March Sale early during Thursday’s session when hip No. 588 sold for $150,000, 30 times his current stud fee.

The bay colt was consigned by Julie Davies, LLC, agent and sold to Hideyuki Mori. The Kentucky-bred had breezed a furlong in 10 seconds flat during the Under Tack Show.

The colt is the second foal, none of racing age, out of the Bodemeister mare Refigure, who is a half-sister to a pair of stakes-placed winners. This is also the immediate family of Ashland S. (G1) winner Lilacs and Lace, who is the dam of Japanese 2-year-old champion Lucky Lilac.

Early in this year’s 2-year-old auction season, Thousand Words’ juveniles have averaged nearly 10 times his stud fee thus far. A son of the late top stallion Pioneerof the Nile, Thousand Words was a graded stakes winner at both two and three. He stands this year for $5,000 live foal.
