Omaha Beach filly kicks off Keeneland meet in style
October 7, 2023
Omaha Beach’s Bourbon Breeze showed amazing turn of foot in the final sixteenth of her maiden special weight win Friday at Keeneland, going from fourth to win drawing away by 3 ¼-lengths.
The 2-year-old filly capped off an excellent day for her sire, who also accounted for Delta Downs maiden special weight winner Prodigy Paradise and Alcibiades S. (G1) third-place finisher Alys Beach.
Omaha Beach is the leading First-Crop sire by earnings per starter, as well as by black type horses, graded stakes horses, and grade 1 horses.
Bourbon Breeze got a relatively clean trip through the first half-mile of Friday’s six-furlong contest before encountering trouble coming into the stretch. She attempted to go outside, but was blocked, and still was bottled up with less than a furlong to run. She finally found an opening in the three-path, and exploded through the gap to win as much the best.
The winner is owned by Bourbon Lane Stable, Sheri Greenberg Racing and DeSales 85 LLC. She was bred in Kentukcy by Silesia Farm and Dr. Hartmut Malluche. The chestnut filly was purchased by her trainer Riley Mott out of the 2023 OBS Spring 2-year-olds in Training sale in April.
