July 16, 2023
Daring Do surged past favorite American Apple in the final furlong to win the $100,000 Pea Patch S. on Sunday afternoon at Ellis Park.
The 3-year-old Into Mischief filly was making her stakes debut in the 5 ½-furlong turf sprint, and with the win became the 17th stakes winner this year for Into Mischief. The Spendthrift stallion leads the 2023 General Sire list in every statistical category as he looks to earn his fifth consecutive champion year as the leading sire in North America.
Daring Do sat just behind a torrid early pace, with American Apple flying through the first quarter-mile in :21.15 seconds. The pacesetter still had the lead with a furlong to run, but could not withstand the charge of Daring Do, who went on to win by a lengths over Twice as Sweet. The final time was 1:01.82 on the firm turf.
Daring Do races for his breeder, Roy and Gretchen Jackson’s Lael Stable. She is the lone foal to race out of More’n Likely, who is a half-sister to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) winner Hootenanny.
