Good and Stout first winner for Spendthrift’s Coal Front
June 16, 2023
Multiple graded stakes winner and $1.8 million earner Coal Front was represented by his first winner on June 15 when Good and Stout rolled to a 4 ½-length victory in a 2-year-old maiden special weight race at Evangeline Downs.
Good and Stout gave early pacesetter Hymn for Carlos a five-length lead in the first furlong, but steadily cut into that margin in the turn and easily went by the leader in midstretch to win going away in a very sharp effort (WATCH RACE).
Good and Stout was bred by Adcock’s Red River Farm, LLC & Hume Wornall and is owned by Whispering Oak Farm. The dark bay colt comes from a stellar female family; fourth dam Cara Rafaela was a multiple Grade 1 winner and is the dam of Bernardini, while third dam Ile de France produced two-time Grade 1 winner Love and Pride.
Coal Front joined the Spendthrift stallion roster in 2020 after a stellar career that saw him win graded stakes at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai, Saratoga, Gulfstream Park and Oaklawn Park. He amassed more than $1.8 million in earnings and currently stands for $5,000 live foal.
