Champion Vino Rosso had his best results thus far of the OBS Spring 2-year-olds in Training sale on Thursday when hip No. 742 was secured for $475,000.
The winning bidder was FMQ Stables, with Tom McCroklin, agent the consignor. The chestnut colt, who will celebrate his second birthday on May 1, was bred in Kentucky by Scott & Debbie Pierce and Dermot & Emma Quinn.
The colt’s dam is graded stakes-placed Nite in Rome, who has already produced a pair of stakes winners in Three Technique and Stan the Man.
Vino Rosso has had excellent results during this year’s 2-year-old auction season. His current average of $141,192 is third-best among all First-Crop sires, trailing only fellow Spendthrift stallions Mitole and Omaha Beach.
