Vekoma has session-topping yearling Wednesday at Keeneland
January 11, 2023
Vekoma, whose first crop are yearlings of 2023, had the top yearling price during Wednesday’s session of the Keeneland January sale when hip No. 1220 brought a winning bid of $180,000.
The chestnut colt, consigned by Archie St. George, who bred him along with Lee Mauberret and Gary Joyner, went to G1 Investments. The colt’s dam Inconclusive was a two-time stakes winner and her dam is a half-sister to graded winner Hence.
“He was a very nice colt, very straightforward,” St. George said. “We had him on the farm and he showed himself very well and he put on a good show in the back ring. We’d like to thank the buyers and everyone who was interested in him.”
Vekoma, whose first weanlings topped back-to-back Keeneland November sessions a couple of months ago, has bred 418 mares in his first two seasons at Spendthrift. The multiple Grade 1 winner is standing this year for $15,000 live foal.
